A complaint filed by Shraddha’s father in Mumbai alleged that Poonawala used to beat Shraddha and that he had informed her family beforehand. In May, Aftab strangled Shraddha and cut her body into 35 pieces. The body parts were kept in a 300 liter freezer for about three weeks.

On November 15, police took Aftab Amin Poonawala to Chhatarpur forest, where he allegedly threw body parts. Delhi Police has recovered 13 body parts from different areas, which are believed to be of the woman and will be sent for DNA testing. Poonawala was arrested on November 12. The brutal incident came to light during his interrogation. On November 8, the Mumbai Police filed a missing report at the Mehrauli police station. A raid was then conducted at Poonawala’s house in Delhi.
