Hackers used about 500 phishing domains. By using these, they are preying on people who want to invest in NFTs. Blockchain security company Slomyst revealed about Lazarus Group in its report.

The scam has been going on for months

According to the report, these cases of cybercrime have been going on for several months. According to reports, the phishing domain was first registered in May-June.

NFT or Non-Fungible Tokens are digital tokens based on blockchain, which can also operate in the metaverse. NFTs are valuable and with their blockchain-based creation, full ownership of these virtual assets is transferred to buyers and resides in crypto wallets. The Lazarus Group creates fake websites that look like real NFT projects. With their help they fall into the trap of fake websites.

How is fraud done?

An official post by SlowMist states that phishing websites record visitor data and transmit it to external websites. The hacker records the visitor’s information and gives it to the external domain via HTTP GET request. It is said that their investigation revealed that hackers use many tokens in their phishing attacks, such as WETH, USDC, DAI and UNI etc.

This year has not been profitable for the NFT industry. Many cases of fraud have been seen in this sector. A large number of phishing attacks are coming. For example, last week anti-theft platform Harpy said OpenSea visitors were vulnerable to a new type of scam. It leads users to phishing sites.
