To avoid this, people often keep their phones on silent or block unknown and useless numbers. However, blocking numbers every time may not give you relief. Register with National Do Not Call

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) launched NCPR (National Customer Preference Register) to protect users from spam calls. It was earlier known as NDNC (National Do Not Call) Registry. DND service can be activated through this service. With this, users will stop receiving calls from telemarketing or selected industries.

How to Activate DND on Phone Number

  • Open the SMS app on the phone.
  • Type START in the message box and send it to 1909.
  • After sending the message, the service provider will send you bank, hospital and other category options along with the code.
  • You can reply by entering the code of the category you want to block.
  • After the request is processed, you will receive a confirmation message that the DND service has been activated
  • DND service takes maximum 24 hours to start

According to the NCPR, the DND service will only block unwanted third-party telemarketing calls and selected industry calls. Your bank’s SMS alerts, online portal and private third party calls will not be blocked if DND is enabled.

We tell you that all users can stop spam calls by enabling DND with the help of their telecom service operators. If you are using Jio or Airtel SIM card, then follow the process below.

For Reliance Jio

Go to MyJio app and open Settings. Now click on Do not disturb in service settings section. Next, choose the category for which you want to block calls and messages.

For Airtel

Visit Airtel’s official site at Now enter your phone number. After that you will get an OTP. Now select the section you want to block.
