The advent of new technologies has also increased the incidence of cyber fraud. The latest case of cyber fraud is related to Instagram. In fact, this time the scammer tricked a 16-year-old girl to increase her followers on Instagram. In return, fraudsters defraud thousands of rupees.

It so happened that the victim of fraud was using social media accounts on her father’s smartphone. Police said that while the girl was watching the Instagram reel, she received a follow request from a person named Sonali Singh. After that, his conversation with Sonali started. The victim was then lured to gain 50,000 followers on Instagram. Sonali demanded 55 thousand rupees in return.

Ask for money by sending QR code

The scammer sent the girl a QR code. The girl then scans this code to transfer from her father’s Google Pay account. Sometime after handing over the money, the girl realizes that her follower count has not increased. He then talks to Sonali and asks for his money back. In this the cheater avoids him on other pretexts. Not only that, fraudsters also try to return the money.

About 55000 followers

According to the police, the girl is a school student. He made 8 different transactions from his father’s account and transferred a total of Rs 55,128. The girl’s father checked her phone and found her bank account empty. Then the girl told him the whole matter. After knowing everything, the girl’s father went to the police station and lodged a complaint.

Police Tracing ID

In this regard, the police said that they are tracing the UPI ID of the scammer. Also, a case has been registered under Information Technology Act and Indian Penal Code.

What to do to avoid

Ignoring kids with phones can get you into trouble. If you use banking apps and payment apps on your smartphone, the risk may increase. To avoid such online fraud, it is better to keep a separate security code in the payment app.
