Dinesh Karthik: In the recently held 2-match Test series between India and Bangladesh, Team India swept the hosts by 2-0. Almost every player has performed well throughout the series. Experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara scored a century in Test cricket after a long time. At the same time, Shreyas Iyer also scored two fantastic half-centuries in two matches.
But after the ODI series, KL Rahul, who captained the Indian team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, was completely silent in the Test series as well. Now even in Tests he is not getting runs from his bat. After that, Indian team’s experienced wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik raised questions about Rahul’s test career.
Dinesh Karthik raised questions about Rahul’s Test career
Indian team’s veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik raised questions about KL Rahul’s career in Test cricket. He believes that if Rahul does not perform well soon, Shubman Gill can replace him in the Test team. DK (Dinesh Karthik) told Cricbuzz that,
“If KL Rahul is to retain his place in the Indian Test team, he needs to score a couple of centuries in the four-match Test series against Australia in February-March 2023. If KL Rahul fails to do so, Shubman Gill can replace him as the opener in the Test team.
“KL Rahul’s average will be lowest”
Let us say that in the last 8 Test innings, KL Rahul has scored only one half-century. He scored 50, 8, 12, 10, 22, 23, 10 and 2. Which is very disappointing. Rahul’s average is between 30-35 after playing more than 40 Test matches, DK said. Which are not acceptable in Tests as openers. Karthik said,
“KL Rahul has played more than 40 Test matches and his batting average is between 30-35. Such an average in Tests is not at all acceptable for an opener. I believe KL Rahul’s average will be the lowest among Indian cricketers who have played 35 Test matches.
