The story of Major Jayant, the only martyr of his parents, is the village that inspired him to join the army. Major Jayant of Tamil Nadu’s Theni district was martyred when an army helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh.

Army helicopter crash: Major A Jayant was among the two pilots killed in the Cheetah helicopter crash in Arunachal Pradesh. He originally hailed from Jayamangalam village near Periyakulam in Theni district of Tamil Nadu. Jayamangalam is considered to be a village of soldiers. For example, a large number of people here are in the army. It is said that Major Jayant also spent his good time in Madurai. His father ran a radio mechanic shop here in town and he was the only one in his house. He was martyred in a military helicopter crash at Bomdila near Mandala, a hilly area of Arunachal Pradesh.
Major Jayant’s cousin M Ganesh said he is also an ex-serviceman and works in the Theni Collector’s office. He said that Jayant studied at the Seventh Day Adventist School in Ellis Nagar here. For his further studies he went to Saraswati Narayan College in Peruguri where he did his B.Sc in Mathematics, but his dream was to join the army. Ganesh says Jayamangalam is especially known for military recruitment, where a large number of people are recruited into the army.

Helicopter Pilot was created in 2016
Major Jayant was a very diligent student and his cousin said he was also selected as the best NCC cadet, which paved the way for him to join the army. Major Jayant’s dream of joining the Army was fulfilled in 2010 and a year later in 2011, he was posted in the Artillery Regiment, where he also got a chance to do a flying course. Major Jayant completed his flying training in 2016 and became a pilot. He used to fly light helicopters.
Funeral in Theni district
After spending a few years in the army, Major Jayant moved to Chrompet, Chennai with his parents and settled there. He got married in 2018 to Chella Sharda who lives in an army base in Arunachal Pradesh. Major Jayant’s body has been taken to Madurai and then to his home village in Theni district, where he will be cremated with full military honours.
