This may be the reason for the recent increase in corona cases in the country. This claim is based on INSACOG data. According to statistics, 30 of the samples in which this new form of coronavirus was found were from Karnataka, 29 from Maharashtra, seven from Puducherry, five from Delhi, two from Telangana, two from Gujarat-Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra. .
The XBB1.16 form of the virus first came to light in January, when it was confirmed in two sample tests, with 59 samples found infected with it in February. The Indian SARS-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), formed under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said the XBB1.16 variant has been confirmed in 15 samples so far in March. Some experts are blaming this new form of the virus for the increase in new cases of corona.

XBB1.16-Gularia is the cause of the increase in Covid cases
Dr Randeep Guleria, former director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), who headed the National Covid Task Force, said the increase in Covid cases is due to the XBB1.16 variant, while that of influenza is due to H3N2. .
In both of these cases, making Covid-appropriate behavior decisions can help prevent infection, said Guleria, MD, chief of the Institute of Internal Medicine and director of medical education at Medante. Most cases are not serious, so there is nothing to panic or fear now.

India Has Most XBB1.16 Cases – Experts
The new XBB1.16 variant has been found in at least 12 countries and India has the highest number of cases, said pediatrician Bipin M Vasishtha, former convenor of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics at Mangala Hospital and Research Center in Bijnor. Cases have also been found in America, Brunei, Singapore and Britain.
