Action should be taken against builders, BDA and BBMP, Kiran Majumder angry over Bengaluru encroachment

Biopharmaceutical company Biocon executive chairman Kiran Majumder-Shaw said action should be taken against the Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation (BBMP) and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for allowing construction on drains in Bengaluru.

Executive Chairman of Biopharmaceuticals Company Biocon Kiran Majumdar-Sh Asked about permission to build on drains in Bangalore Municipal Corporation Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation (BBMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) should be worked on. Shaw said the anti-encroachment drive undertaken by the BMMP this week to remove illegal structures on drains was a long-term measure.

He told news agency PTI that the question of whether there will be a parallel inquiry into how the BBMP and BDA gave permission for construction needs to be answered. He said, instead of quick fixes, long-term and holistic solutions should be found. Shaw said the demolition of the buildings would affect innocent landlords.

He said why action will not be taken against BDA and BBMP along with the builder who constructed the building. Meanwhile, BBMP continued its anti-encroachment operation in the city for the fourth day on Thursday. IT parks and posh villas among drain occupiers

A civic body in Bengaluru has identified several illegal structures built over drains. Due to this, in the recent past, especially around the information technology (IT) corridor and important roads, the city had to face severe floods. According to Assistant Executive Engineer of Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP), Begmane Techpark, Wipro, Poorva Paradise have allegedly encroached drains at several places in Mahadevpura zone.

Officers should not come under pressure – CM Bommai

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stressed in the House that there will be no discrimination against anyone during the campaign to de-encroachment of drains. Chief Minister Bommai told the Assembly that the BBMP Chief Commissioner and other officials have been given clear instructions not to come under any pressure.
