Tata Motors is in the long run, ready to run on petrol, methanol and ethanol in addition to electric

The company expects total EV sales to touch the 50,000 unit mark this year. Tata Motors has electric models like Nexon EV and Tigor EV. It is also working on flex-fuel (fuel made from a mixture of petrol and methanol or ethanol).

Automobile company Tata Motors expects electric vehicles (EVs) to account for 20 percent of its total passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market over the next three years. A senior official of the company informed this information on Thursday.

The company expects total EV sales to touch the 50,000 unit mark this year. Tata Motors has electric models like Nexon EV and Tigor EV. It is also working on flex-fuel (fuel made from a mixture of petrol and methanol or ethanol). The company’s product portfolio is expected to be E20 (20 percent ethanol) compliant by 2025.

Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, told reporters on the sidelines of SIAM’s annual conference on EV sales levels, “Currently the presence of electric vehicles is 8.5 per cent and about 25 per cent of our models are electric.

Asked how the company sees the level of EV penetration in its passenger car portfolio in three years, he said, “I think it’s heading towards 20 percent.”
